Round 2 of the AFL Finals Series is sure to be memorable with 2 blockbuster games held at the illustrious MCG. The first game kicks off at 7:50pm on Friday the 14th of September between Hawthorn and Melbourne. The Melbourne Demons will start as favourites in this game after a comprehensive victory against Geelong last Friday night. The Demons held the Cats goalless in the first quarter, before holding them to just 6 goals for the remainder of the match. The Melbourne outfit looked prolific through the centre, led by a youthful midfield in Clayton Oliver and Angus Brayshaw. The Hawks were somewhat disappointing against the Tigers on Thursday night, failing to convert simply set shots in front of goal. Their defence against the reigning premiers was solid in the first half before a third quarter onslaught from the Tigers put the game to bed. If Hawthorn can tighten up their defence and fix the forward half pressure, this contest will be one not to miss!

The second and final game of this round will see the Collingwood Magpies host the Greater Western Sydney Giants. Getting underway at 7:25pm on Saturday September 15th, this game is sure to get the city of Melbourne excited. Coming off a loss to West Coast last week, The Magpies will be out to prove themselves on their home turf. In arguably the best game of round 1, the Magpies matched it with the Eagles in a fierce battle, only to fall short in the last part of the final quarter. A home advantage may be all they need to book themselves a spot in the Preliminary Final next week. The Giants on the other hand flexed some muscle against the Swans last week, leaving them speechless, and also goalless in the third quarter. Holding them to just 4 goals for the entire match, the Giants looked strong in defence and fearless through the rebounding midfield.

Melbourne, with 2 more games at the MCG this weekend, book yourself a seat, or find one of the city’s great bars/pubs to join in the action. Just like last weekend, wherever you end up, be sure to #melbourniseme!
